Founded in October 2000 and approved by the Ningbo Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, the Ningbo Fastener Industry Association (NFIA) is composed of fastener manufacturers and related upstream and downstream units. The association currently has 144 member enterprises, of which about 95% are above designated size. Its main products include bolts, nuts, spring washers, threaded rods, high-strength structural sets, premium architectural and decorative hardware, special-shaped parts and automotive components. Some of these products have been applied in high-efficiency clean-power generation equipment, wind power, nuclear power, high-end passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks, rail transit equipment, ships, petrochemicals, engineering and agricultural machinery, metallurgy and mining equipment, electronic equipment and emerging industries, as well as high-end equipment manufacturing, the Beijing National Stadium ("Bird's Nest") project, the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the Zhoushan Sea-crossing Bridge, high-speed EMUs running above 600 km/h, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge on the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway, and military projects, among other key national engineering works. In April 2011 Ningbo was first awarded the title of "Capital of Fasteners in China", and in April 2021 it successfully passed the national re-assessment and retained the honorary title.
